Fitness

Physical inactivity is associated with many leading causes of death and disability in the U.S. such as heart disease, hypertension, and osteoporosis. Even light exercise has a favorable impact on blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and weight control. Exercise can improve your self-esteem and reduce the effects of stress as well.

To fit fitness into your life, remember to choose exercise activities that suit your lifestyle and can be a fun part of your daily routine. Keep a regular fitness diary and be sure to include family and friends!

Be Creative
Many different activities are excellent exercise. Find a combination of activities you can do frequently (that's the key) to burn off calories and improve your heart, bones, and muscles. For example, take the stairs instead of the elevator at work, walk to the bus stop, or take a daily walk with your child or pet.

But don't forget to
  • get your physician's advice before starting a new exercise program
  • stretch to warm up and cool down, and
  • drink plenty of water.
